    Move 1: Establishing a Territory

    – Step 1A (Topic Generalizations): Paragraph 1-3
These opening paragraphs discuss general definitions. The author explains that in today’s rapid information age, critical thinking is no longer just an option—it is a necessity. The author then links this to critical writing as the method for students to process and express ideas critically. To gain the reader’s agreement that this issue is a major concern in modern education.
    – Step 1B (Reviewing Literature): Paragraph 4-5
The author introduces scientific data and results from previous researchers (such as Yundayani et al., 2017). The content focuses on how prior research proves that critical writing significantly helps students filter information. To provide a theoretical foundation and evidence that this topic has been researched before and has yielded significant results.

    Move 2: Establishing a Niche
    – Step 1A (Indicating A Gap): Paragraph 6
The author notes that while there is plenty of general research on critical writing, there is a lack of studies specifically focusing on students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The author is essentially saying: “Current research is incomplete; there is a ‘void’ in the EFL context, and that is what I intend to fill”.

Move 3: Presenting the Present Work
    – Step 1 (Announcing Purposes): Paragraph 7
The author directly states that the aim of this research is to explore critical writing practices specifically within that EFL environment. To clarify the primary focus and direction of the research article.
    – Step 2 (Summarizing Methods): Paragraph 7
The author provides a brief overview, stating that the research was conducted using a survey research method. To let the reader know technically how the data for this study was collected.
    – Step 6 (Stating value/Significance): Paragraph 7
In the final part, the author explains that the findings can eventually be used to help policymakers create better learning systems. To demonstrate the real-world benefits or the contribution this research makes to the future of education.

    1. I’ve studied it.

    2.
    a) The interview findings and journal guidelines are mostly aligned. Both highlight the importance of clear structure, following the journal template, and focusing on the research topic. They also agree that plagiarism should be low and writing should be clear.

    b) The sample article reflects good practices from the guidelines. It has a clear introduction, explains the research problem, and uses proper methods such as qualitative design, questionnaires, and interviews. However, from the interview, we learned that not all writers can follow these standards well. Some common problems are wrong format, weak introduction, and unfocused discussion.

    c) Some challenges from the interview include long review time, article rejection, and writer’s block. In the journal, these challenges are not directly explained, but they are indirectly addressed through clear structure and guidelines. For example, the journal shows how to write each section properly, such as presenting results clearly and explaining findings in the discussion. This can help writers reduce mistakes and improve their articles. Strategies like staying consistent and using proper references are also important to overcome writing difficulties.

    3) Overall, both the interview and journal show similar patterns of high-quality scientific writing. A good article should have clear structure, correct format, low plagiarism, strong introduction, clear abstract, and focused discussion. The difference is that the journal focuses on writing standards, while the interview highlights real challenges in the process. From both sources, it can be concluded that good academic writing requires not only good structure and content, but also consistency, patience, and the ability to handle challenges during writing and publication.

    1. Based on the discussion and comparison with other groups, writing and submitting a scientific article involves several steps, such as preparing the manuscript based on the journal template, writing each section systematically, and submitting it to a suitable journal. After submission, the review process can take a long time, depending on the journal, reviewers, and submission queue. In some cases, authors may need to follow up with the editor. From other groups’ questions, it is also clear that writers need strategies to stay consistent, such as managing time and setting writing targets. The process may not always follow the initial plan, as changes can happen during writing. Overall, the publication process is complex, time-consuming, and requires patience and consistency.

    2. From the discussion, a high-quality article should follow the journal template, have a clear structure (especially in the introduction), maintain low plagiarism, and stay focused on the research topic. A good abstract should include the purpose, method, results, and novelty in a concise way. A strong introduction should clearly explain the background, show the research gap, and state the research objectives. In terms of challenges, article rejection is common and usually caused by incorrect format, weak structure, or unfocused discussion. Another common issue is writer’s block, where authors struggle to start or continue writing. Overall, most challenges are related to technical issues and lack of preparation.

    3. The discussion shows that understanding the structure of a scientific article is very important. Each section has a specific role. For example, the results section should present data clearly, while the conclusion should be brief and not include new information. Proper use of references is also important, especially when dealing with secondary citations. Writers need to understand how to cite correctly to avoid mistakes. In addition, tools such as journal templates, plagiarism checkers, and reference managers are helpful. The use of AI is also discussed, and it should be used carefully while following academic ethics. Support from lecturers, reviewers, and peers is also important. Overall, successful academic writing depends not only on individual skills but also on using the right resources, understanding the structure, and using technology wisely.

    1. I read an article about students’ difficulties in learning English vocabulary at the eighth grade level. I read it recently for my assignment, and I accessed it from an online journal. The article focuses on the problems students face when learning vocabulary, such as understanding meanings and remembering new words. While reading it, I felt interested because the topic is very close to real classroom situations. It also made me reflect on how important vocabulary is in learning English.

    2. What made this experience memorable is the topic itself, because it reflects real problems faced by students in Indonesia. I found it interesting that many students struggle with vocabulary due to limited exposure to English. It also made me realize that vocabulary is not just about memorizing words, but also understanding how to use them. The challenging part was understanding the different factors that influence students’ difficulties. I had to think carefully to connect the problems with the causes explained in the article.

    3. I usually find the methodology section the most difficult. This is because it explains how the research was conducted in a very detailed way. Sometimes I feel confused about why certain methods are used and how they help answer the research questions. It also includes specific steps that are not always easy to follow. Because of that, I need more time to understand this part.

    4. In my opinion, reading journal articles helps me understand how to develop ideas in a clear and logical way. I can learn how to explain a topic step by step, from background to conclusion. It also helps me see how researchers connect problems, causes, and solutions in their writing. Besides that, I become more aware of how to make my writing more structured and organized. Overall, it helps me write more clearly and thoughtfully.
