ParticipantMove 1: Establishing Research Territory
For paragraphs 1 through 5 (starting from “Critical Thinking is…” until “…Yamin et al. (2023) conducted a comprehensive analysis…”). In these paragraphs, the author provides the necessary background and context for the study. The author discusses the importance of critical thinking and critical writing in education, specifically for English language students. They cite numerous previous studies to show that this is a well-established and important area of academic interest.Move 2: Establishing a Niche
For paragraph 6 (starting with “Despite the above-mentioned studies…”). This is the “hinge” of the introduction where the author points out a gap in the current research. While many studies exist, the author argues that the specific needs of critical writing in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) settings still need further investigation. By using the word “Despite”, the author gives the signal that existing research isn’t enough and that there is an open “niche” or space that their new research will fill.Move 3: Presenting Present Research
For the last paragraph, 7 (starting with “Therefore, the present study aims to…”). In this paragraph, the author turns the gap identified in Move 2 into the actual space their study will occupy. The author clearly states the objective “to portray English learners’ needs of critical writing in higher education setting”. They describe how they will do this (through a survey) and how the results will help policymakers and educators improve their teaching practices. This move directly answers the niche by providing the research that was previously missing.April 27, 2026 at 10:33 am in reply to: Worksheet 2.2 Comparing Interview Insights with Journal Guidelines #3883Hasni
Participant1.A. The findings of these two templates are actually quite consistent. Abstract, Introduction, Method, Findings & Discussion, Conclusion, References.
The difference:
– The Cakrawala Journal Template is more detailed about the percentage of each section (e.g. Findings at least 60%).
– The IJAL Journal template focuses more on article length (15–20 pages) and formatting rules such as indentation and spacing.B. Which is obvious:
1. Both use academic standards such as APA Style (7th edition) for citations.
2. The abstract must be concise and include goals, methods, results, and conclusions.
3. Language must be formal and clear.
The difference:
– The Cakrawala Journal template is more detailed in writing tables, pictures, and even numbers.
– The IJAL Journal template is simpler and more direct to points without too many additional technical rules.C. There are several challenges implied:
1. Keep the structure neat and in proportion (e.g. the results part must be most dominant).
2. Avoiding too long or repeated explanations.
3. Use the citations properly.
Strategy:
– Follow templates consistently.
– Use subheading to clarify the contents.
– It’s concise but informative, especially in the abstract and the results.2. A. Similarities:
– Clear and systematic structure
– Use formal language
– There is a logical division
– Use valid references
B. Difference:
– Rule level details (More details Cakrawala, simpler IJAL)
– Technical formats such as font, spacing, and content proportions
C. Pattern:
– Findings & Discussion section is always the most important
– Abstracts must be dense and informative
– Method must be clear and replicable
D. Key features of quality scientific writing:
– Obviously, not rambling.
– well-structured
– Based on data and references
– Consistent with journal formatHasni
Participant1. I found that very much in the making of scientific articles. starting with the process before creating the article and working on the article, the quality of the article we create and reference, difficulties during creating the article, the structure within the article, etc.
2. The characteristic of high-quality scientific articles that I got from interviews is how we look for the SINTA (Science and Technology Index) and also take references to recent scientific articles. The challenge often faced by authors of scientific articles is to be confused about titles, keywords, and references.
3. The understanding that I gained in the interview was that I knew the first step before making scientific articles, how we did good scientific articles and according to the journals in our respective majors, the percentage of plagiarism, the structure, the use of AI in scientific articles, and know the difficulty of making articles and how to deal with it.
